The creator of Dungeons & Dragons has died
News by Jogvanth

Gary Gygax (July 27 1938 - March 4 2008) is best known as being the co-creator of Dungeons and Dragons with Dave Arneson and as the co-founder of TSR Inc. along with Don Kaye.

As an avid Sci-Fi fan, coupled with a great imagination and an interrest in games, he started creating games at an early age, and started some gaming federations and conferences, most notable of which, probably is the Gen-Con.

I feel that this short message deserves a little more. I did some research on the web and found a few things about this great man!

He died from a burst blood-vein (abdominal aortic aneurysm, a condition which is commonly seen in males over 60).

He founded TSR Inc.in 1973, which published a lot of RPGs including the 'Basic D&D'. He also held a small gathering of enthusiasts in his basement in 1967, later known as GenCon 0.

From the age of eight until his death, he lived in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. In 1987, he married his second wife, Gail Carpenter. She survives him, as do three sons and three daughters.

I hope that more will follow in the footsteps of an enthusiast in a great hobby!

XKCDs tribute to Gary (mouse-over):

ok, so mouse-over doesn't work when embedded, anyway, it's supposed to say "RIP, Gary"
Roffen on March 11 2008 17:40:52
hahaha smiley That may be the very reason, why he left TSR in the first place! But it really is spot on for D&D today. There's a 4th edition being playtested!
