MicrosoftMicrosoft is following the trend of freeware on the internet. Microsoft announced they will be releasing a special web-edition of their Office-package as freeware on the web, calling it 'Microsoft Office Live Workspace.'

The Microsoft Live Workspace is meant as a direct competitor on Google Documents. It has some good feature over Google Documents, but also some bad ones.

Anyone with a Microsoft Live ID can log on to the Live Workspace and start working. Working much like Google's writing software, you can store documents on the web for instant access from almost any computer in the world.

The interface is made to look like the programs you already know from Word, Excel and Powerpoint. While your documents remain online, they are protected with Microsoft's own encryption software for security.

You can also share your work with other users that have a Live ID identity, for online collaboration.
