Obscure? Not at all, apart from the fact that both of you are forgetting that it's named "Down to the Waterline".
I was deciding between it and Telegraph Road for my honorable mention (which was in the top 5 in the first draft, but then had to push it for Enter Sandman).
As for not being obscure: it was included both on Dire Straits, the "best of" album Money for Nothing, it is on the live album "Live at the BBC", it was released as a single, and has it's own Wikipedia page. It is a great song, just IMO not as good as Telegraph Road, which also is a Side 1, Track 1 from Dire Straits - and which incidentally does not have it's own Wikipedia page :/ |

It's from the first album, which is one of the lesser known albums. Apart from being on compilations it's a bit obscure. Anyway there are probably hundreds of monster hits to choose from. |

Disagree. Lesser known it is not, unless you compare it solely to Brothers in Arms :P
It is their all time second best selling studio album, with a higher US chart placement than Love Over Gold and On Every Street, which charted better in the UK. Those 3 albums are known by people who have a passing interest in Dire Straits.
Communiqué and Making Movies are the lesser known, the latter only reaching the top of the charts in Norway (I heard it a lot as a kid :P). Actually now thinking about it, I should put Dire Straits - Tunnel of Love - Making Movies into my top 5 (+1) list. It an amazing open song, to me it is better than Telegraph Road and Down to the Waterline. |

At least from people I know Brothers in Arms and Making Movies are the big ones. Anyway I agree with Tunnel of Love. |
