A followup on a previous link on fasting every other day.
Grizlas on August 06 2012 14:06:07
I tried eating every other day for 6 weeks. It was not as hard as one might expect, but it did not produce much of a weight loss.

I'm all for it, as I was in the discussion we had after I posted the previous link, but haven't found a way to make it work for me. The 5:2 system mentioned in your link seems to be a good alternative.

What makes me think this is the "right way" on an intuitive level is the fact that humans prior to the first agricultural revolution did not have ample food supplies every day. You had a lot of food available when seeds/roots/berries were in season or when game/fish/birds migrated past, and quite a lot less during other times - to the point of fasting and starvation. Hence it is to me the proper "Paleolithic diet": Eat whatever you want in whatever quantity - then fast.

Yes, 5:2 seems so much easier to put in practice. I never even considered trying ADF, as there was no way I could actually eat like that for more than 1-2 weeks. Doing 5:2 where Monday and Tuesday are fasting, or very low caloric intake, days, seems actually feasible for the long term.
