Yes it's a bit biased but interesting nonetheless.

The article itself is well written, but the opinions and facts are so-so. However the comments are brilliant and provide really good and interesting views on what's happening.

I think it's unbelievable that Barca are in such a financial mess, and considering the titles they have won the past few years one should think that they managed to pay off some of the debt. And hearing Joan Laporta going on about how they ought to get Cesc on the cheap because he's got the magical barca DNA is just hilarious. Barca didn't seem to have any need for him, so AW took him to Arsenal and it's at Arsenal that he has learned his trade, so either pay up or shut up Barca.
OKJones on July 09 2010 09:13:38
Sandra Rosell will be in South Africa this weekend and will try and meet with Arsene Wenger over the transfer of Cesc.

"Arsene, we want to buy Cesc".

"He is not for sale".

"Not even for ... *checks pockets* ... €14.47, all the money we have?"

"He is not for sale"

"I will throw in the Sagrada Familia. Or Puyol's hair. It's like Samson's hair!!".

"Go away".

You're all happy smiles, but Barca has plenty of cash to make their offer for Cesc (at €40 million), and refuse to pay the €80 million Arsenal have responded with. Personally I think it's a mistake for them to get Cesc in any case for these inflated prices, especially while Xavi and Iniesta are at their prime. He doesn't even feature in the Spanish starting 11.

Furthermore Barca is in a far better financial state that some top Premier League clubs, so it's not a final nail of any sorts, even if butthurt arse fans wish they can stop a player returning to his home team... I'm wondering how well he'll play next season if he's forced to stay in London against his will. Plenty of precedence there, and none of it good smiley

Get your facts straight. The only Arsenal response has been that Cesc is not for sale at any price. And I agree with you, they don't need Cesc to warm their bench, they have plenty of other players to do that.

Barca just took a loan on 125 million GBP to ease their cash problems, sounds excellent.

I'm wondering how well he'll play next season if he's forced to stay in London against his will.

He might be as crappy as Stevie G was last year, but i doubt it smiley

I actually have my facts straight numbnutssmiley

Sourced here, here, here & here.

And Gerrard never made statements like these..., nor is anyone trying desperately to keep him away from his home team.

Anyhow Barcelona's cash troubles aren't as grave as the schadenfreude people would like. In the absolute worst case they'll just have to add a sponsor to their shirt - yeah that's right Barcelona doesn't play with paid sponsorship of their shirts, stadiums and what have you...

The first of those is probably the most reliable source you referred to. One of those probably the sun is spinning some story and the rest of them are copy & pasting. If you want hard fact such statement has to come from Arsenal FC, and not your run of the mill gossip sites.

Neither has Cesc, your barca pals have been doing all the talking, Xavi, Pique and Carlos Jessica Parker

Anyhow what beggars belive is why Barca are in debt. They have the biggest income in world football. They also have an advantage over premier league teams, as they get a huge chunk out of the tv-rights cake, where premier league teams have to split in equal parts. Barcelona earn £135m from tv rights. Compare that to the measly £20m GBP of Sevilla. They might not have any sponsors on their shirt but Nike pay them a minimum of £30m a year and the club have a hefty list of sponsors (26 in all) on their website alone. But they probably are in a healthy financial position compared to Liverpool and Mutd. Barca's net interest is £11.6m whilst Liverpool's is £40m and Mutd is £68m.
