I'm actually thinking of joining civilization. I know it's early days, but isn't there some clever way to buy an Iphone 3GS and soon this one?

How does it all work? They seem to cost a hell of a lot less in the US than in europe. Can't you just buy one online and unlock it somehow?

as I see it, join the lowlevel-tech-high-priced-slavery of a Apple.

Or go for the nerdish Android.

Or wait for a "windows mobil 7" mobil
Norlander on June 07 2010 20:46:29
I'll go for this onesmiley
Vuzman on June 07 2010 21:08:43
There are plenty of places to buy the 3GS, though I would advise you to stay away from Telebúðin... The price is still around 3-4000 DKK, but I guess that has something to do with demand. It should decrease after the 4 comes out in July(ish).

Remember that the advertised US price isn't actually the real price. Taxes are never included in the advertised prices, and for phones there is usually a plan tied to it as well.

@Norlander: The HTC Evo has gotten mixed reviews. Besides, it's moo, since it will never be available in Europe. Its hardware is made for the US CDMA system, and not our GSM.
Norlander on June 07 2010 23:06:59
Then we'll have to wait for the European version. With HDMI-out, removable 32gb memory and 8mp camera, and all the Android features it's the one I wantsmiley

Further whenever I'll be back living on the mainland it's 4G network will come in handy. Hell my phone here on the Islands is running 3.5G.

Anyhow the HDMI = win.
Vuzman on June 08 2010 12:16:40
HDMI-out is nice, although it disappoints.

I wouldn't hold my breath on using 4G in DK anytime soon. The frequencies can be used already from 2011, but it'll certainly take some time before coverage and speeds (and phones!) are good enough to warrant buying a 4G phone.

Then again, the HTC Evo isn't really 4G, it's WiMAX. With a theoretical max of 10 Mbit/s it's not really up to par with the 16 Mbit/s max on 3's network here in DK. And that's with 3.75G (hey, I'm using your logic...)
Norlander on June 08 2010 13:00:18
We'll just have to wait until we have one we can try out for ourselves, since the favorable reviews can also be found (here, here, here, here, here & here).
Vuzman on June 08 2010 14:07:41
Seriously? Not exactly any well-known tech sites.... Four of those weren't reviews at all, they just listed features, probably culled from HTC's website, or an HTC press release. One was just a demo (of the limited HDMI-out).

Only one of those links was an actual review, which, while favorable, included such keywords as 'crashes', 'glitch' and 'mediocre'.

On a side note, I just realized that the Evo only has 512 MB RAM. It does come with a (puny) 8 GB microSD card, but Android can't use it for apps(!)... it can only use the main memory for apps... LOL!!11 I have over 4 gigs of apps on my iPhone...
Norlander on June 08 2010 14:27:07
Tech site is the standard now?smiley

Ok here is ./ (where you have to read the user comments) and Technology Review & Engadget on the Evo.... But let me guess ./ is too nerdy to be taken seriously, at least when they're not praising Apple smiley
Vuzman on June 08 2010 16:14:51
Dotslash?

Have no idea why you linked to /., was just the usual, generally humorous, bickering. Not even close to a review, which is probably because that was posted back in March and the phone only came out a few days ago.

The other two links were real reviews, by real tech sites (as opposed to My San Antonio and News Provider.......). Pretty favorable, although the Evo did receive a bit of critique. While I felt that they both generally reviewed the Evo about the same, they ended quite differently. While Engadget said "We adore it. But...", TechReview said "Let's just say I'm going to wait a little bit longer to see what comes out next."

But you go ahead and buy one.
Jogvanth on June 08 2010 18:31:19
Or you can just buy the phone that I've recently purchased.
Toxied on June 08 2010 19:06:55
After i drop my HTC Diamond on the floor and it got a little strange.
I have been divided between buying a Desire/legend now or live with a strange phone until till Win7mob phone hit the marked.

Does the Desire do it job as the best smartphone at the moment?:p
OKJones on June 08 2010 19:56:38
I'm not an apple fanboy, but the iphone has set the standard in mobile phones and the rest are trying to catch up. On the hardware side of things they have surpassed the iphond 3gs, but the overall daily phone experience has never really caught up, until now, almost. I recently purchased the HTC Legend and it is a great phone with similar hardware as the iphone. It's very fast and responsive, has a nice design and a very nice screen with vivid colours. It works almost flawlessly, have had to restart it about 2 times due to some crap from the android market. On one occasion though it got confused and whatever button i pressed did the function of another button. My main issue with the phone was actually another phone, the desire, which after trying it for 1,5 days am sold to the desire. It's got a bigger screen, bigger everything actually, but the main thing is the difference in the screen and the typing, which is miles better on the desire, the legend screen is just a bit too small and leads to alot of mistyping. The Desire does everything I need it to do.
Jogvanth on June 08 2010 21:51:52
I agree with OKJones. I've shown the Desire to a couple of hard-core Apple fans, and they've both been impressed with it. Albeit they won't say it's better (what Appliot would) they have seemed impressed with it, and they're common reply has been "just you wait 'till the Iphone4 comes out". So, I imagine it's among the best, if not the best, at the moment. In short, in my view, its great.
