Today there is an oddity in that there is a hurricane watch for Denmark and the Faroes, caused by the same weather system. It's a big one, with constant winds over 30 m/s for the next 12 hours, wonder how high the gusts will get. Luckily the winds are from the north so Torshavn isn't affected that much.
Landsverk has put out a notice in the public radio that people should not venture outside over the coming hours.
We're used to the weather being a big more extreme up here in the North Atlantic, so for us to receive the same warnings (don't go outside) that one hears in Denmark means it's a huge one, and the Faroes is smack in the middle of it, as seen by these images.

In norway this hurricane has been named "Tuve" I'm told - a girls name.
Why do hurricanes all hurricanes have to be female names? Just to protest this, we should name the next real nasty hurricane we get a male name - I propose hurricane Børge.

Needless to say, me and Vester are stuck in Bergen for the time being. The new captain is too much of a pussy to battle the north atlantic this weekend, go figure.

Well good thing the ship wasn't in the Faroes. The only safe harbour tonight is the one in Torshavn, which he is unable to sail into. So most likely the ship would have been smashed.
In Gøtu the fire departments house blew away in the wind. Klaksvík is in chaos and SEV has given up explaining where the power has gone, and instead is listing the places where power remains.
The Cops even closed the road "Yvri við Strond" because rocks and debries where washed onto the road - and Torshavn is the quiet place

And the Danes had a high of 38 m/s, and pretty much everything stopped, as far as the news reports.

I know it's funny to laugh at people in countries where they aren't as fortunate to have storms Faroese-style, but this may be over exaggerating a bit.
A couple of wind-sensitive, high-speed ferries were canceled (not all of them), and the Storebælt-bridge closed due to their safety policy (for only the fourth time ever). The í˜resund-bridge, and the two biggest airports didn't close, and just about everything else was business as usual.
