Religion is the opium of the people...and they need to kick the habit.

This obviously has nothing to do with religion. This is a product of the socio-economic circumstances in Palestine and also of the oppressing Israeli occupational forces. When people have little or no education and are poor and are oppressed, they react in this way.

I'm an atheist too, but I have to admit that religion brings so much good to so many people.

Did you even watch the little speech by the kid at the end? This has everything to do with religion. It is a religious war between muslims and jews, and is of course a product of the social circumstances in Palestine.

But to put it another way, before the foundation of Israel as a state the Palestinians did NOT have anything more or better then now, there where just other rules, yet they didn't end up indoctrinating their kids with "My highest wish is to die in Allah's name", why is that? Is it because the British and Ottoman empire together with the Hassamite kingdom treated them so much better? Hardly.

I think its' the military uniforms! ban them! military clothes have never done anything good for anyone which is clearly demonstrated by this video. Same goes for kindergardens. They are the breeding ground for terrorists! ban them!

And yeah, the native americans didn't even have booze before the yanks took their lands. Clearly they're better off now!

Solution: I have no clue. But that shit is FUBAR and you know it.

I'm tired of people peddling Islam as "the religion of peace". These so-called extremists are not really extremists nor are they crazy. They are simply true believers. They truly believe what they say they believe. The others, the "liberal" and "moderate" believers are not true believers, they don't truly believe in the written word of their religion, and they only serve to legitimize the extremists.

Let's look at what's in the "holy" writings of the "religion of peace", shall we?:

Prophet, make war on the unbelievers and the hypocrites and deal rigorously with them. Hell shall be their home: an evil fate. (Koran 9:73)

Believers, make war on the infidels who dwell around you. Deal firmly with them. Know that God is with the righteous. (Koran 9:123)

The believers who stay at home -- apart from those that suffer from a grave impediment -- are not the equal of those who fight for the cause of God with their goods and their persons. God has given those that fight with their goods and their persons a higher rank than those who stay at home. God has promised all a good reward; but far richer is the recompense of those who fight for Him.... He that leaves his dwelling to fight for God and His apostle and is then overtaken by death, shall be rewarded by God....The unbelievers are your inveterate enemies. (Koran 4:95-101)

Let those who would exchange the life of this world for the hereafter, fight for thecause of God; whoever fights for the cause of God, whether he dies or triumphs, Weshall richly reward him.... The true believers fight for the cause of God, but theinfidels fight for the devil. Fight then against the friends of Satan.... Say: "Trifling are the pleasures of this life. The hereafter is better for those who would keep from evil...." (Koran 4:74-78)

It is obvious that the "extremists" are the true believers.

Is Islam the problem? No. Religion is the problem. The paradigm required by religious faith enables otherwise sane and reasonable minds to rationalize and approve highly irrational ideas. This is a breeding ground for extremism.

Social and/or economic inequality, lack of education, etc. are the usual suspects when the roots of terrorism and conflicts around the world are discussed. The elephant in the china shop, religion, is seldom mentioned; for fear of being labelled intolerant. To a degree, the usual suspects generally are a factor, but generally, they in turn are caused by religious differences and discrimination.

Consider that the 9/11 terrorists were college-educated and came from well-to-do backgrounds.

Consider these recent conflicts: Palestine (Jews v. Muslims), the Balkans (Orthodox Serbians v. Catholic Croatians; Orthodox Serbians v. Bosnian and Albanian Muslims), Northern Ireland (Protestants v. Catholics), Kashmir (Muslims v. Hindus), Sudan (Muslims v. Christians and animists), Nigeria (Muslims v. Christians), Ethiopia and Eritrea (Muslims v. Christians), Sri Lanka (Sinhalese Buddhists v. Tamil Hindus), Indonesia (Muslims v. Timorese Christians), and the Caucasus (Orthodox Russians v. Chechen Muslims; Muslim Azerbaijanis v. Catholic and Orthodox Armenians).

Isn't it striking how all the groups in the conflicts have religion as the common denominator?

@Vuzman
So, all dictated by religion, bad! All dictated by science, good!

This would be your general solution to world peace and understanding?

No decision is so fine as to not bind us to its consequences.
No consequence is so unexpected as to absolve us of our decisions.
Not even death.

Atheists make up about 2,3 % of the worlds population, erm... no.

How about muslims and their neighbours as a common denominator?

Why would I want to end every post the same way?
