The Broken Column by Frida Kahlo

Who is this?

This might be a bit of a tough one, so I have picked his wiki picture. If you find him through wiki this picture will be in the upper right on the page.

It just came to me as lightning from a clear sky.

These questions, we have been asking each other tha last months... I suppose many of them belong in the '$64.000' category of most TV-show! smiley

We should be proud of ourselves! smiley

Clue time...

American intellectuals might have an easier time guessing this, than we do.

For what he is known for, whatever that might be, he is one of the greats.

P.S. The clue about the Americans might lead some to the wrong kind of search, it is a hint where you have to use some logic to find its value.

Apart from him being a member of the order of St. John and probably living in the late 18th to early 19th century, I have no idea. More clues?

Who is ruler?

Hint:
1) This is the image from his wikipedia entry.

2) So great was his impact that his reign of power is considered an epoch.

The crown on his breastplate makes me think he could be a danish king.

However, I'm going with my first thought:

Can't find any early pictures so I'm just guessing here: Johnny Depp?

Why would I want to end every post the same way?

Nope, not Johnny nor Stephen. I believe the picture is taken around the height of his fame.

There is a hint in the name of the attached file: ironman.jpg

The design of the glasses makes me think, late 70's or early 80's.
Any other 'four-eyes' on here recognize the design?

Mathias Rust is quite a character:

After serving 18 months in Soviet prison, Rust worked for some time in a hospital in Rissen, Germany. He fell in love with one of the nurses, but when she rejected him, he lost it and stabbed her with a knife. For this attempted murder, he was sentenced to two and a half years in prison from 1991 to 1993.

In April 1994 Rust suddenly announced that he would return to Russia, visiting an orphanage, for which he had become the patron. He then disappeared for two years. A rumor said he had died in Russia, but it later turned out he had been working as a shoe-salesman in Moscow.

1996, at the age of 28, and after having traveled all over the world, Rust returned to Germany. According to an interview in 1997, he was going to marry an Indian girl, Geetha, the daughter of a wealthy Indian tee-salesman. Rust himself converted to Hinduism, and the marriage was said to be held as a Hindu-ceremony in India.

2001: Mathias Rust is convicted for stealing a cashmere pullover. He is ordered to pay 10,000 Marks; the sentence is later reduced to 600 Marks.
2003 August: Mathias Rust launches an internet site promoting a "think tank" called Orion & Isis which endeavors to "work on issues which contain non-violent solutions to resolve conflicts between government, ethnic or religious institutions." Applicants need to be in possession of an administrative position with the connected powers of attorney or in possession of major influence from any other level. After not gaining much publicity, the site disappears.
2004 July: Mathias Rust is living in Berlin married to his second wife Athena.
2004: Convicted of fraud, has to pay € 1,500 for stolen goods
