Alright... that was my first thought, but kinda expected it to be wrong, since I'm nowhere near yours and Norlander's level when it comes to geography.
New question:
Where or what is this?
Clues:
1: It's a place where ocean meets land.
2: The place has a special name in Faroese.
3: I think that some of that white stuff may be ice or snow.
4: Not hello

I'll just post a quick message here, so that the thread will seem to be a new item.
I find it hard to believe that nobody gets this, considering the clues. - A more likely reason is, that people aren't bothered because there's so much else to do these days.

no
Clue: Its size varies from 1 to 2 mm, there are abundances of them in the Faroes.
They can transmit a disease, this disease caused "panic" in the dansih agricultural community last year (2008)

Please try to find the english word, as the faroese word " Moyggjabiti" is used about mosquitos also, and therefor I deem it incorrect as an answer to this question.

The faroese "Myggjabiti" is the danish "dansemyg" of the latin "Chironomidae" family. But is is more than 1 to 2 mm in size, and therefore does not match your clue.

Hehe... interresting observation . Myggjabiti seems to have a strange translation, the Chironomidae family does not feed on blood and does therefore not bite. This insect I am looking for does feed on blood, but as the mosquito only the female feeds on blood.
I can reveal another clue, the insect i'm looking for belongs in the Culicoides genus.

The answer is correct, OkJones. Its species name is Culicoides obsoletus. The Midge that Norlander mentions is the most common one i the Faroe Islands, Culicoides impunctatus. But there are many species.
