Does anyone know? Wikipedia says there are 20, USGS says there are 67, SNPP says there are 71, all those figures are for the US.
There are at least 4 in Canada, some in Australia, etc....

Well, the answer that I hold (and this counts as a clue) was to total the search-results I got after weeding out the non-desirables that failed to meet my criteria.

Well, this is a tricky one.
You say "Not counting fictional, suburbs, municipalities or counties", but the question is if you should count e.g. Townships and Unincorporated Communities.
Here goes
1 in Canada
1 in New Zealand
1 in Northern Ireland
1 in Scotland
25 in USA
In addition, there are 10 townships in the US and 5 Unincorporated communities/areas. Looking at a wiki-search, it almost looks like there is a town in Pennsylvania, but there actually 9 townships there.
The ones in Australia are also a bit tricky, where 3 of them might be considered towns. (I choose not to count them).
So in summary, I'll go with 29. (if you count townships, then Porque was right).
EDIT: maybe it's worth pointing out, that there are 4 towns in Wisconsin called Springfield. Also, the 5 communities/areas, I mentioned, but didn't count, are in California, Indiana, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin.

In February 1991 during the Gulf War the battleship USS Missouri, escorted by HMS Gloucester (carrying Sea Dart) and the USS Jarrett (equipped with Phalanx CIWS), was engaged by an Iraqi Silkworm missile (also known as a Seersucker). The Silkworm missile was intercepted and destroyed by a Sea Dart fired from Gloucester. During the same engagement, the Jarrett Phalanx 20 mm CIWS was placed in autoengagement mode and targeted chaff launched by the Missouri rather than the incoming missile. This engagement was the first validated, successful engagement of a missile by a missile during combat at sea, though the engagement was tail-end after the Silkworm had flown past the Gloucester.
