I was thinking of arranging an outing in the near future, anyone interested in taking a hike to the mountains for some hours?

I haven't decided yet where to go or even when, but saturday june 2nd sounds like a good suggestion to me. Slættaratindur and Skælingsfjall are two places I have been to a couple of times and could guide (well, only Skælingsfjall need a guide smiley).

Any takers on some fresh air ?

I'm in, never been to Slættaratindur. We could take Sátan, sounds a bit devilish but it's an easy hike approx. 3 hours, you can look at my pictures from one such trip under pictures somewhere. Or how about Sneis never been there but it's 747 meters and it looks cool, rather it looks impossible but isn't they say.

I am most certainly interested. Haven't been up Slættaratindur so that would be a cool thing to try.

@OKJones:
Was up Sneis some years ago, it wasn't that hard and the view was pretty cool iirc.

Slættaratindur takes about 40 minutes to walk up, and 10 minutes to run down! I tried! The easiest way it to park at the top og the road on Eiðisskarð and walk the last 400 metres or so.
There are two 'tops' on for kids and women, the other for men! There's a second top, the real top. It looks more like a view from Himmalaya!
The trip for Slættaratindur saturday, june 2nd is set. Bring a small snack. The trip will be around 3 hours. I'll keep an option open if the weather is really bad (rain!)

I'm ok with Slættaratindur, but I guess we are walking up there backwards or something if it's going to take 3 hours. smiley

I suppose the lazy Tróndur is going to cause some problems, so I calculated a few extra footsteps in smiley

Actually, I never tried walking down the backside into that valley there... maybe that could be an option ? But then we would need more than 3 hours smiley

I don't think anyone from the Faroes has won a Darwin Award before...

And what do Darwin and awards have to do with hiking exactly?

I think he has seen the decent from the top to the backside of Slættaratindursmiley It was a bad idea from the start smiley

Anyways, the trip from Thorshavn in cars takes 40 minutes to the parking lot at the feet of the mountain.
45 minutes to the top.
30 minutes enjoying the view and food.
25 minutes back to the cars.
Stopping at the local 'Cafí© Inn' and getting a couple of beer (and food for the drivers!) for the hometrip: 6 hours! smiley

Maybe ending the trip at the movies or some other event!

Ok, I was speaking to Torellion, deciding that the trip will be real!

We meet up in front of 'Mylnan' next to Rúsan and Farodane á Hálsi at 11 o'clock saturday June 2nd. This is so we don't need to wait for half the people to stop somewhere to buy 'supplies'.

The reasons for this 'early' meeting are two: First, there is Norðoyastevna, second, Faroe Islands will play against Italy later that evening.

Apart from the early meet-up, there are no changes. I am still working on a backup plan, but the weather-forecast seems decent, a bit windy, but dry and clear.

We should have arranged on beforehand, who drives and who drives with who. I have a car and can bring a total of four people.

ps. I could add that it is a good idea to let either me (Rolf) or Tróndur know, if you are planning to join the trip.

pps. The match Faroe Islands-Italy will be playing at 19.15, and we will easily be back by then!

I'm definitely up for it. Although, I can't confirm definitely until Friday. (May have some work to do)

Does anyone know when the ticket sales start on Saturday? I forgot to buy a ticket last week.

So far I counted me, Torellion, Lamech, Laluu and OKJones.

The only arrangement, I have made so far is that Lamech and I will be going in the same car (his!). Feel free to phone me (or anyone else )?!?)), if you need a spot in a car!

edit:
Of course, if you need a ride, just call me, and I'll figure something out! I'm on the phone 212 212.

I will try to bring a camcorder to the top, somebody else needs to bring the camera, or it didn't happen!

Weather forecast for the Faroe Islands from DMI:

Lørdag og søndag
Skyet til overskyet, efterhånden med regn. Frisk vind til kuling omkring sydøst, 10 til 15 m/s, der afterhånden aftager lidt, og temp. omkring 10 grader.

I found out tonight, that I'll probably have loads of work to do all week-end. smiley So I'll have to pass this time.

As I told you on the phone, we're not made of paper, we don't dissolve, if we get wet smiley

For being serious for a second, I'm not sure what we do... buy a good breakfast at Mylnan, then go to my place and get stuffed! My place here in Tórshavn.
